The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation at the 2nd Edition of the Permanent Secretary’s Quarterly Forum with Union Leaders in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), officially launched the Service Welfare Newsletter and the Service Welfare Digital Newsletter Website.
The event, which took place on the 10th of April, 2019, at Hosanna House, Wuse 2, Abuja had in attendance the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office; Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, Director of Employee Relations and Welfare; Mr Alfred Abah, Director Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Scheme; Mr. Emmanuel Otu, Special Assistant to the Permanent Secretary; Mrs Bosede Olaniyi, Labour leaders in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), amongst other distinguished guests.
One of the aims of Service Welfare Newsletter is to serve as a platform for the enlightenment of Federal Civil Servants, thereby bridging the communication gap between government and its employees. Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office (SWO), Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) disclosed at occasion that the Newsletter is also an avenue to exchange ideas on how to strategize, initiate and address issues bordering on the welfare and conditions of service of public servants.
She reiterated that the newsletter would be used as a medium to inform, educate and motivate Federal Civil Servants across the MDAs by keeping them abreast of various initiatives of government targeted at improving their welfare and wellbeing.
“It will also provide an opportunity to showcase Awardees of the Rewards and Recognition System across MDAs. The Newsletter is also expected to provide employees with up to date information of their rights and benefits as well as provide opportunity to celebrate outstanding employees across the MDAs,” she said.

In compliance with the Pension Reform Act 2004 Section 9(3), the Federal Government flagged off the Group Life Assurance (GLA) Cover for its Employees in 2008, with retroactive effect from 1st July, 2004 when the Pensions Reforms Act was signed into Law, by appointing Insurance Companies and Brokers to provide Cover for its workers from 1st January to 31st December, 2008.

The Ethics and Professionalism Award, intended to be on monthly basis, recognizes a Civil Servant or Unit or Department that has exemplified the highest standards of professionalism and work ethic in course of their career or over a considerable period. This Award is for an officer who has made the greatest impact through Mentorship, on the life and development of a Mentee in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance to one or more mentees in the Unit, Department or Ministry.
